A medium-textured, light green, warm-season grass that spreads by vigorous rhizomes and stolons. Kikuyu grass forms a tough, dense, springy turf under close mowing. Adapted to moist, medium-textured soils of high fertility. It is well adapted to high elevations, however, in the warm damp tropical lowland it becomes severely diseased and does not persist.
